Antipsychotic Stewardship: Be Person-Centered, CMS-Aligned, and Survey-Ready

Wednesday, December 2, 2026

Noon - 1:00 PM

Antipsychotic stewardship is a critical component of resident-centered care, quality improvement, and regulatory compliance in skilled nursing facilities. This webinar will provide practical, CMS-aligned strategies to support appropriate antipsychotic use, strengthen documentation practices, and improve interdisciplinary oversight of medication management. Participants will learn how to integrate non-pharmacological interventions, monitor ongoing medication use, manage regulatory requirements related to PRN orders and gradual dose reductions, and implement sustainable stewardship processes that promote resident safety and survey readiness.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  1.  Identify CMS-aligned antipsychotic stewardship requirements, including documentation standards, appropriate indications for use, non-pharmacological interventions, informed consent, monitoring expectations, and gradual dose reduction (GDR) requirements.
  2. Apply structured clinical decision-making and behavioral documentation practices to evaluate antipsychotic initiation, renewal, and PRN use, while accurately documenting resident behaviors, interventions, outcomes, and provider notification needs.
  3. Implement interdisciplinary workflows and quality assurance processes that support ongoing stewardship, including PRN tracking, GDR monitoring, medication reviews, QAPI measurement, and survey readiness efforts.
