    PURPOSE

    Significant changes to the Minimum Data Set (MDS) patient assessment tool released by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services will be effective Oct. 1, 2023. Now is the time for skilled nursing facilities to understand the changes so they can prepare their staff and settings ahead of the deadline.

    •Discuss culturally competent and trauma informed care.
    •Examine the changes in the interview process related to the PHQ-02-09.
    •Identify components of the critical element pathway (CEP) resident interview that relate to the MDS interviews.
